Working out first became a part of my lifestyle at 14 years old. As part of my high school basketball team, I had a strength & conditioning coach who invested in me and my teammates teaching us everything from proper form to mental toughness. As a young girl, fitness transformed my mindset about myself and the world. It taught me mental & physical strength and gave me newfound confidence. I was hooked and continued to practice and learn about fitness through high school and college. During college, I coached middle school girls basketball and helped some friends and family learn how to workout, but it was more of a hobby and becoming a personal trainer was not on my mind yet. Determined to help people, I got my Bachelors degree in Family Studies/Behavioral health, wanting to work with kids in the foster care system which I did for a period of time. As I continued and found success on my own ‘fitness journey’ others started to approach me for help along their own. My passion for fitness continued to grow so I decided to get certified in 2018 and just train on the side for fun and to gain some experience. With training as my “side hustle” I worked full-time in education for a few years, working with many different kinds of students ranging from kindergartners, to special ed high schoolers, to middle schoolers learning English for the first time. My work with kids definitely helped me to develop the patience and attention to detail that I bring into my training today. Later on in 2019, I also worked part time as a personal trainer and community mentor for about 2 years at Gem Academy, a residential weight loss center for teenage girls. When the pandemic hit, it gave me more time to study and get creative with my training as well as reflect on what I really wanted to do in life. I made the decision I wanted to expand my training business and make my ‘side hustle’ my ‘main hustle’. So, with all the gyms closed, I packed all the workout equipment I had into the trunk of my car and began to make home and park visits in Phoenix, create online programs, and film workout videos. I planned a slow exit from my traditional career and planned to slowly move into training full time.
Then an unexpected turn came at the end of 2020 when Devon and Elissa, whom I had trained with previously, were opening their own gym (Die Trying Training Facility) and invited me to join the team at the start of 2021. I took a leap of faith, quit my job, and went into training full time in just a couple of weeks instead of a year like I had planned. It turned out to be the best decision I ever made and I haven’t looked back. I spent most of 2021 in the gym developing relationships with my hardworking clients, continuing to learn and improve my craft, and enjoying being able to do what I am passionate about everyday. Knowing how much of an impact fitness has made on my life, I desire to give that to others. I strive to create an atmosphere where each of my clients feel personally supported, make substantial progress, and build confidence both in and out of the gym!
